In just his first year at Binghamton University, Eduardo Alvarez ’26 is making an impact across campus. A participant of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Alvarez attended the Fund SUNY rally held outside The Union on the Lois B. DeFleur Walkway on March 24, which was organized by United University Professions (UUP) and the Graduate Students Employee Union (GSEU). He even grabbed the microphone and addressed the crowd of over 100 University faculty, professional staff and students gathered in front of the University Union to voice his support for increased state funding for SUNY, explaining what a difference the state-funded EOP had made for him.

“EOP has had such a large impact on my time and success here at Binghamton,” said Alvarez. “The Fund SUNY rally was an excellent opportunity for me to stand up and speak on the impact that EOP has. My story is a perfect example of how SUNY uses its funding to support its students directly, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to share it.”

In addition to his activism and advocacy on campus, Alvarez also attended the EOP Student Leadership Conference in Syracuse this May where he presented his winter SUNY experience with JP Morgan.

“The JP Morgan financial literacy program was another outstanding experience that the EOP led me to,” said Alvarez. “I was vocal and engaged in the program, and was then chosen to present on it at the leadership conference in Syracuse.”

Alvarez explained that all of the opportunities that he had earned in his first year at Binghamton linked back to the skills he learned through the EOP and the resources that the program provided.
