Binghamton University to host conference to promote inter-professional dialogues on racial equity
Binghamton University will host “Courageous conversations: inter-professional dialogues promoting racial equity” conference on from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at the University Downtown Center, 67 Washington Street, Binghamton.
The conference will bring together a diverse array of professionals from across the University and community, and will offer speakers and workshops aimed to promote racial equity and positive outcomes about conversations on race.
Topics addressed during the conference will include community empowerment; diversity and inclusion; socio-economic disparities; public education and youth; structural racism and privilege; and bystander intervention and accountability.
Guest speakers:
- Charles Nivens, director of Peer Services at the Mental Health Association of Tompkins County: Nivens has more than 20 years of experience working in mental health care with diverse populations.
- Tommy Miller, director of the Family Empowerment Services Program at Tompkins/Tioga County Catholic Charities and coordinator/facilitator of Franziska Racker Centers’ Family Resolution Project: Miller has more than 30 years in human services field and juvenile justice system Tommy is an active social justice artist in the Ithaca community.
