Not many people get a ride to work from the National Guard in a Humvee, but that’s just what happened to Binghamton University graduate student Kyle Micon on March 14 during Winter Storm Stella. Micon is a student in the Decker School of Nursing’s master of science program and a registered nurse in the Emergency Department Observations Unit at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, N.Y. He was scheduled to work the overnight shift, but his car was buried in snow and he couldn’t get it out. Thanks his unit manager and other staff at UHS who contacted the National Guard for assistance, Micon made it from his home in Kirkwood, N.Y., to work with 10 minutes to spare. He is pursuing certification as a family nurse practitioner and expects to graduate in May.
