Miceli sets new school record in decathlon

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Joe Miceli placed 10th in the decathlon at the Clyde Littlefield Relays - one of the biggest collegiate outdoor track meets in the nation - hosted by the University of Texas on March 31.

Miceli scored 7,096 points which broke his 2016 Binghamton record of 6,734 points. He is the defending America East champion in the decathlon and the pole vault.

Texas A&M’s Lindon Victor won with 8,472 points which broke the former NCAA record of 8,465 set in 2006.

Miceli was 16th halfway through the competition, but won the pole vault (17-0 ¾) and was second in the 1,500 (4:22.53). As of March 30, the pole vault mark qualifies Miceli for the NCAA East Regional Meet - May 25-27 at the University of Kentucky - for the second year in a row. The top 12 finishers there advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in in Eugene, Oregon on June 7-10.

The top 24 decathlon scores in the nation this year advance to the national championships. Last year, the 24th-best score was 7,380.
