Binghamton University has been named a Top 10 Public Ivy in a new report by Forbes, which identified top-ranked public and private universities nationwide that don’t fall within the Ivy League.

The ranking places Binghamton among the “New Ivies” for “producing smart, driven graduates craved by employers of all types.” Forbes states that employers have soured on some top Ivy schools and are looking to public universities for new recruits. Binghamton is one school that has been getting a lot of attention from employers, according to the report.

“I’m excited to see Binghamton University being recognized nationally, especially among some of the top public universities in the U.S.,” said President Harvey Stenger. “Binghamton has a long and proud tradition of attracting excellent and driven students who are further prepared for careers by our dedicated faculty. The success that Binghamton alumni enjoy in the rewarding careers they choose is a testament to their inherent individual talents and the education and experience they received. Through my interactions with them, I can say that Binghamton graduates are ready for any challenge because they received tremendous training as students.”

The list considered enrollments, standardized test scores, and reputation among managers in charge of hiring at various organizations.

“Binghamton University’s reputation as an outstanding institution of higher learning comes from many decades of remarkable work by its faculty and generations of students choosing Binghamton as the place where they can grow as scholars,” said Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Donald Hall. “I’m proud to see that employers are acknowledging the value of a Binghamton education, because it has been built on the achievement of our graduates in the sciences, engineering, healthcare and the arts, among many other fields. Binghamton’s faculty deserve a great deal of credit as mentors and teachers who inspire our graduates to go out and change the world.

The Forbes report noted that while Binghamton is already respected in its surrounding geographic area, it is now attracting wider notice.
