Inaugural fellows announced for the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing

Binghamton University’s Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences alumni have been named to the inaugural class of fellows of the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing (ADLN). They are: Sheldon D. Fields ’91, MS/cert ’95; Kamila Barnes ’07; Orlando O. Harris ’07; and Julius Johnson ’05, MS/cert ’09.

The new fellowship, established by the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), recognizes nurse leaders for their significant and sustained contributions to advancing justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) in nursing and healthcare.

Sheldon D. Fields, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, CRNP, AACRN, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, was named a luminary ADLN fellow. These are highly distinguished individuals renowned for their JEDI contributions to nursing education, research, practice, policy or administration. Luminary fellows have at least 30 years of experience in nursing and are expected to facilitate greater JEDI in nursing while continuing their groundbreaking work.

Kamila Barnes, DNP, RN, FNP-C; Orlando O. Harris, PhD, RN, FNP, MPH, FAAN; and Julius Johnson, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, FAANP, were named distinguished ADLN fellows. This group of fellows consists of individuals who have created innovative JEDI initiatives in nursing and transformed nursing education, research, practice, policy or administration.

Fields, Barnes, Harris and Johnson will be officially inducted into the ADLN at the NBNA conference in San Francisco at the July 25 fellow induction ceremony. After the ceremony, the honorees may begin using their new FADLN credentials.
