Binghamton University announced Monday, July 1, it has sped past its EXCELERATE campaign goal of a quarter of a billion dollars, raising over $260 million to advance its competitive excellence as a premier public university.

“The impact of this campaign — on our endowment, in support for financial aid, student programs and faculty innovation — will make the University’s future brighter than ever” President Harvey G. Stenger said. “I am proud so many alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends joined together in this monumental campaign to support the University.”

“We did it! Our EXCELERATE campaign was a huge success,” said Campaign Chair Howard D. Unger ’82, LHD ’19. “We had a Campaign Committee filled with exceptional leaders who care deeply about our campus. We engaged new supporters in this campaign, even students, and these inspired, involved and invested supporters make all the difference — now and in the future.”

EXCELERATE support is being used to advance campaign priorities: Ensure an exceptional education for every student, make that experience accessible through financial aid, and spark discovery for a changing world by investing in faculty.

Just some examples of what our nearly 35,000 EXCELERATE donors made possible during the campaign include:

  • More than $67 million in gifts to fund scholarships and other student financial aid.
  • Over $134 million in investments in the student experience, including a state-of-the-art Baseball Stadium Complex, funds for internships, student research projects and programs.
  • Over $30 million for faculty, including competitive research funds and endowed positions.
  • An all-time high of annual support for the Binghamton Fund, with donors investing in innovation and immediate needs.

The record-breaking EXCELERATE: Moving at the Speed of Binghamton initiative is the third comprehensive-gifts campaign at Binghamton. The preliminary results of this campaign are more than double what Binghamton has ever raised, fueled by donors and committed volunteers who share a passion for the University and its continued rise in success.

Previously, Bold.Brilliant.Binghamton — The Campaign for Binghamton University, which ended in June 2012 after seven years, raised $101.2 million. The University’s inaugural campaign, Believe in Binghamton, raised about $50 million over six years and ended in June 2002.

Donors, alumni and the entire campus community will join in celebrating the University-wide impact of the EXCELERATE campaign and the power of Binghamton pride during Homecoming Weekend, Sept. 27-29, on campus.
