Message from Assistant Dean of Experiential Education
Assistant Dean of Experiential Education Nicholas Schwier gives update, celebrates achievements
Dear Preceptors and Friends,
As we are quickly progressing through the Fall semester, it is often one of our busier seasons whether it is taking care of our colleagues, patients and/or learners. Despite the many challenges that occur on a daily basis that test our abilities to balance all of our personal and professional responsibilities, it’s also a time to celebrate the accomplishments of those around us, including our colleagues and learners.
We are excited to highlight some of these accomplishments as well as some exciting endeavors coming from our OEE in this issue. In particular, the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Office of Experiential Education is proud to promote the community service of one of our preceptors local to the Triple Cities area, Nicholas Stevens. During our last issue, we announced the start of our pharmacy technician training program. This issue describes the launch and progress of the pharmacy technician training program and provides the perspectives of our program faculty, staff and learners. Finally, this issue will describe the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Scholarship of Teaching and Learning grant, in which our school was awarded to complete an experiential education-related research project.
The “Need to Know” section within this issue of our preceptor newsletter contains important information and reminders as we prepare for the culmination of the Fall semester and commencement into Winter and Spring. In particular, we appreciate your consideration and flexibility with our P4 students as they are preparing for and/or actively interviewing for fellowship, residency and job interviews throughout the remainder of the Fall semester and into the Winter and Spring.
Please reach out to the OEE always with any feedback, questions, and/or comments you may have. Preceptors are more than welcome to participate in our Experiential Education Ad-Hoc Committee, where you can work with other preceptors, SOPPS faculty, and pharmacy students to help improve and grow our experiential learning program. Thank you for all that you do for your community, patients, the SOPPS and the profession!
Warmly,
Nick
