Alkins and Miceli Sweep Major Awards at AE Outdoor Meet

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Jon Alkins was the Men’s Most Outstanding Track Performer and fellow senior Joe Miceli was the Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer, highlighting Binghamton’s performance in the second and final day of the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Atkins Facility on May 7. In the team standings, both the Bearcat men and women’s teams finished fifth.

Alkins won the 200 (21.49) and was second in the 100 (10.52). He won five individual indoor titles during his career, but the 200 was his first outdoor crown. With 19 total points, Alkins was also presented with the Coaches’ Award as the top men’s point scorer during the meet. Alkins swept the same two awards at the America East Indoor Championships in February. Alkins has earned the three Coaches’ Awards during his career.

Miceli repeated as the decathlon champion with 6,760 points. He earned the Most Outstanding Field Athlete Award for the second straight America East Outdoor Championships.

Freshman Jack Fitzgerald won the high jump (6-9 ½). Junior Ted Okon was second in the high jump (5-9 ½) and freshman Matt Baker was third in the triple jump (48-2 1/2).

On the women’s side, senior Sarah Osaheni, was second in the 400 hurdles (59.50). She is the first Binghamton athlete to break the 60-second mark in the event.

Junior Oyin Adewale was second in the shot put and fourth in the discus. She placed in three events (she was sixth in the hammer) for a total of 16 points.

Junior Rasheedah Shardow was third in the 400 hurdles (1:02.31).
