Binghamton University’s Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development celebrated its 10th annual Career Champions Breakfast on March 27 to honor 153 faculty and staff members from across campus for impacting students’ personal and professional growth.

Established by the Fleishman Center in 2015, Career Champions are nominated by students to recognize faculty and staff who have supported them in discovering their purpose, identifying their career objectives, solidifying academic or professional plans, or securing employment. These champions may assist with networking, graduate school applications, internships or job connections, skill development, and industry knowledge.

In recognition of a decade of Career Champions, the Fleishman Center presented two Excellence in Career Integration Awards, honoring outstanding partnerships that integrate career education into curriculum and programs. These efforts expand students’ access to career development and help them connect their academic experiences to meaningful career pathways. This year’s recipients were the First-Year Research Immersion program and the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The Supervisor of the Year Award, part of the Student Employment initiative, was also presented during the breakfast to Rodney Gabel, professor in the Division of Speech and Language Pathology of Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The award recognizes a Binghamton University supervisor who has made an exceptional impact on student employees through mentorship, leadership, and support.

The program, held in the Mandela Room, also featured remarks highlighting the importance of Career Champions from Karima Legette, director of the Educational Opportunity Program, and Caitlin Light, assistant director and researcher, microbial biofilms in human health, in the First-Year Research Immersion program. President Anne D’Alleva closed the celebration by congratulating the honorees and encouraging them to continue supporting student success.
