Baseball finishes regular season 30-11

Junior Nick Wegmann tossed six innings of no-hit ball and the Binghamton University baseball team (30-11, 15-4 America East) finished the regular season with a 10-1 win over Hartford on May 21.

Wegmann and freshman catcher TJ Wegmann also worked in Binghamton’s 2-1 win over 19th-ranked Virginia Tech on March 5. Wegmann put down 18 of the 21 batters he faced on May 21, and walked three as he lowered his season ERA to 2.97.

The Bearcats provided plenty of offensive support with four runs in the first and fourth and two more runs in the eighth.

Sophomore third baseman Justin Yurchak went 4-for-4 with four RBI and junior center fielder CJ Krowiak went 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman right fielder Anthony Meduri had three hits as the top three in the Binghamton lineup went a combined 11-for-13 with five RBI.

Freshman shortstop Greg Satriale belted his first collegiate home run.

Binghamton heads to Lowell for its first America East tournament game on May 25. The Bearcats faces either fourth-seeded Albany or fifth-seeded Maine. The six-team, double elimination tournament begins May 24 and the champion receives an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

Notes

Binghamton’s 15-4 conference record (.789) is its third-best win percentage since joining the America East in 2002, behind only the 21-3 mark in 2010 (.875) and the 19-5 mark from last season (.792) ... in the last two seasons, each culminating with a regular season title, BU is a combined 34-9 against America East foes (.791) ... the team finished up its home slate with a 16-3 record and for the first time in school history, played more home games (19) than road games (18).
