Introducing The Collegiate and Susquehanna Room: Binghamton’s newest dining and event spaces
From daily chef's specials to high-end catered gatherings, the University's vibrant new dining and event options are open for business
The Collegiate, an on-campus restaurant-style dining option located in Science 1, above the new Panera Café, opened for business on Oct. 19. The opening marks the second phase of a renovation project that has transformed the space previously occupied by the Chenango Room and Einstein Bros. Bagels.
Designed with faculty and staff in mind, The Collegiate brings back a seated, served style of dining previously offered through the Chenango Room.
“We heard from faculty and staff who wanted this type of dining experience to return to campus, and we’re excited to offer The Collegiate as a direct response to that feedback,” said Paola Mignone, assistant vice president for residential experiences and auxiliaries.
Binghamton University’s Auxiliary Services department, which oversees the University’s vendor contracts for dining, banking, the bookstore, and more, has been working toward the opening for three years, partnering with Bearcat Dining over the past 10 months to bring the concept to life.
Open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Collegiate offers a welcoming setting for colleagues to connect over lunch, conduct meetings or interviews, or host campus guests. The second-story restaurant also offers beautiful views of campus.
The current menu features salads, sandwiches, bowls, pasta, and desserts, plus a soup-and-salad bar and a daily chef's choice special.
Next door to The Collegiate is the Susquehanna Room, a new event venue offering a high-end experience for catered events, meetings, and conferences. The space includes custom Binghamton-themed seating for up to 198 people and has a built-in retractable stage and AV, sound, and lighting systems. University community members holding larger catered events can also reserve the outdoor terrace, lobby, and The Collegiate dining room.
“We invite faculty and staff to experience The Collegiate and the Susquehanna Room,” Mignone said. “These new spaces enhance the campus experience and give our community additional places to connect.”
