The fourth installment in BingUNews' look at new faculty members
Sue Jones, research instructor, College of Community and Public Affairs
Sue Jones, a research instructor for the Promise Zone in the College of Community and Public Affairs, will also serve as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Leadership.
Jones, from Narrowsburg, N.Y., received her bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica. She received her master’s of education (inclusive childhood education, grades 1-6) from Binghamton University.
At Binghamton University, she will teach Issues in Education.
Jones’ interests include working with “at-promise” youth and families.
Soongeol Kwon, assistant professor of systems science and industrial engineering, Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science
Soongeol Kwon, an assistant professor of systems science and industrial engineering, will teach Operations Research at Binghamton University.
Kwon, from Seoul, Korea, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial engineering from Yonsei University. He received his doctorate in industrial and systems engineering from Texas A&M University.
His research interests include energy system optimization, energy efficiency, smart grid, renewable energy and data centers.
Kwon enjoys watching sports and photography.
Marisol Marcin, visiting assistant professor of romance languages, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences
Marisol Marcin, a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Romance Languages and Literature, will teach elementary and intermediate Spanish and Spanish in Translation at Binghamton University.
Marcin, from Greene, N.Y., received her undergraduate degree in modern languages teaching from Universidad Pedagogica Nacional and a master’s degree in integrating technology in education from Walden University. She received her doctorate in translation studies from Binghamton University.
Her research interests include language and identity, Hispanicity, language education, and second-language education and acquisition.
Marcin enjoys ceramics and new technologies.
Alexandra Moore, English professor, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences
Alexandra Moore, a professor in the Department of English, General Literature and Rhetoric, specializes in international human rights in literature and film, postcolonial studies, and women’s and gender studies.
Moore, from Boulder, Colo., received her bachelor’s degree in history from Brown University. She received a master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University. Jones also received a master’s degree and doctorate in English from the University of Rochester.
She previously served as a professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
Moore’s edited collections include The Routledge Companion to Literature and Human Rights and Teaching Human Rights in Literary and Cultural Studies.
At Binghamton, Moore will teach Globalization and Literary Culture, Human Rights and Contemporary Anglophone Literature, Post 9/11 Literature and Culture, and International Human Rights Literature and Film.
She enjoys hiking and traveling.
Amber Simpson, assistant professor of mathematics education, College of Community and Public Affairs
Amber Simpson, an assistant professor of mathematics education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Leadership, previously served as a visiting assistant professor at Indiana University.
Simpson, from Church Hill, Tenn., received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from East Tennessee State University. She received her master’s of education from Lincoln Memorial University and a doctorate in mathematics education from Clemson University.
Simpson’s research interests include STEM education, with a focus on the role of education for youth and families in formal and informal learning experiences.
At Binghamton, Simpson will teach Mathematics Content for Secondary Teaching, Philosophical and Social Issues in Education, and Philosophical and Theoretical Foundations in Mathematics.
She enjoys hiking and cross-stitch.
