Decker School of Nursing Clinical Assistant Professor Jodi Sutherland, MS ‘07, PhD ‘15, was selected to receive Sigma Theta Tau International’s 2017 Research Dissertation Award for her work, “Predicting Nurse Practitioners’ Intentions and Behaviors to Perform Routine HIV Screening.”

“The Dissertation Research Award recognizes scholarly contributions to the profession of nursing and nursing science,” says Sutherland. “It supports the development of beginning researchers, like myself, and recognizes research focused on primary and secondary prevention of HIV/AIDS so that HIV screening rates increase. I am honored to receive this award.”

Sutherland will receive the award at a Tribute Awards event on Oct. 29. This celebration is part of the organization’s 44th Biennial Convention, being held Oct. 28 through Nov. 1 in Indianapolis.

Sigma Theta Tau is an international honor society for nursing with more than 135,000 members in 90 countries.
