Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Course
Professional engineers can now register through the Watson School's Office of Industrial Outreach for a new continuing education course being held April 4.
The Office of Industrial Outreach has started introducing new courses for professional engineers and other community members to continue their education and gain specialized training.
The Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) course is just one example of the new offerings. This course will be offered Wednesday, April 4, and registration can be completed online.
Course description
When engineering projects are not properly planned and managed, they can get behind schedule, go over budget or overlook a task that is critical to completion. Smart planning sets up a project for success and effective ongoing management improves the likelihood that the project will meet its objectives. Industrial and systems engineering tools and techniques can be used in the planning of a project to ensure that all aspects (manpower, resources, budget and duration) are accounted for accordingly.
This seminar will provide an in-depth look at critical project management planning methods for establishing work breakdown structures (WBS), scheduling and estimating. Also covered are supporting approaches including the critical path method (CPM) and the project evaluation and review technique (PERT). This program will provide you with the framework to be more effective in executing engineering projects.
In addition to the lecture components, the course will use case studies, exercises, and discussion in order to deliver the material in the most effective manner and to make the seminar an interactive session.
Instructor
The course will be taught by Michael Brown, a mechanical design engineer at The Raymond Corporation in Greene, N.Y., who has over 15 years of industry experience. Along with developing new products for Raymond, he is the subject matter expert in GD&T, practicing, teaching courses and supporting the engineering and manufacturing teams. Prior to working at Raymond, Brown was a research engineer at Reactive NanoTechnologies in Hunt Valley, Md. He has a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. Brown currently lives in Endicott, N.Y., with his family.
Register for the course by March 26, 2018.
