First-year students can take advantage of several programs designed to introduce them to the many academic and student life sides of Binghamton University.

First Year Experience
UNIV 101 and UNIV 103 are two-credit seminar courses for first-semester freshmen students. UNIV offers a blended course format, team-taught by a faculty member and a professional staff member. The course includes two primary components, one focusing on an interesting academic topic, with the second component devoted to new student transition topics.

Emerging Leaders Program
The Emerging Leaders Program is a fall semester program designed for new freshmen and transfer students to develop and practice effective leadership skills. While forming valuable connections within the University and local community, participants explore leadership through specific interest-based Knowledge Communities.
