Anne M. Calkins, MD, FACEP

Medical Director
Lourdes Center for Pain and Wellness

Anne Calkins began her medical journey as a board certified emergency medicine physician. While she found the "safety net" model of practice ethically and professionally appealing, the rotating schedule and overnight shifts compelled a change in venue, and she jumped at the opportunity to direct a research program and practice medical pain management for New York Spine and Wellness Center in Syracuse, N.Y. When her husband was offered a position in Binghamton, Calkins agreed to develop an integrative pain medicine and wellness practice for Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, and the program has grown and blossomed over the last two years.

While working in the emergency department at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, Calkins enjoyed a collaborative relationship with the onsite pharmacists, and looks forward to teaching with the clinical faculty at her practice. She is no stranger to clinical education, having taught physician assistants with the Le Moyne College program for almost 15 years. In fact, she was awarded preceptor of the year, clinician of the year and instructor of the year at various times throughout her tenure.

Finally, Calkins hopes to engage in clinical research, with areas of interest to include medical cannabis, compounding and microgenomic errors in metabolism.
