SP1.11: STARS: Strategic Targeted Academic Research Support; Adopt Strategies for Investment to Create Exponential (Non-Linear) Increases in Extramural Funding

We are making strategic investments in faculty and research in five Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (TAEs). TAE steering committees have engaged in a variety of activities that are creating a sense of identity for each group and generating a sense of excitement about the possibilities they hold. Each committee has held or planned events to engage faculty and community members in their work, and each has awarded seed grants to support promising research collaborations by teams of faculty from different disciplines. Thirty-eight searches for TAE affiliated faculty are in progress, and steering committee members are serving on search committees in each. Steering committees have also begun to identify future hiring needs for affiliated and core positions to be filled in 2015-16.

Goals advanced under this project are:

  1. Become a Nationally Recognized University for Outstanding Doctoral Education
  2. Increase Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Profile to that of a Premier Public University
  3. Enrich Collaborative Culture for Research, Scholarship and Creative Production

Indicators of success for these goals are:
