SP1.6: Increase the Funds Available for New Faculty Start-Up Support

This project seeks to identify funding and secure commitments for increased start-up packages to ensure Binghamton University attracts the caliber of faculty necessary to become a premier research university. This plan supplements faculty start-up funding through 2017-18. The Division of Research and the Division of Academic Affairs have committed an additional $125K/year for a total of $250K/year in new money and the Road Map Initiative provided $500K for 2013-14 for start-up support. Enhanced start-up packages attracted 18 research-active faculty members for AY13/14, six more than in AY12/13, at an average start-up package of $150,000. Searches for 24 faculty members in STEM areas have been authorized for 2014-15, with financial arrangements made by the divisions of research, academic affairs and administration.
