The Health and Wellness Community
The Health and Wellness Community (HAWC) in Old Digman Hall is our first freshmen-only community! Students find they are able to form friendships easier in an all-freshmen, corridor-style building. We have approximately 140 first-year students on three co-ed floors. The Wellness Suite includes:
- a kitchen and classroom for cooking demonstrations and wellness classes
- a large studio for yoga/group exercise
- a Well Study Space which contains exercise/study bikes, fit and balance chairs and a mirrored wall to write study notes on
- two serenity rooms for meditation with SAD light therapy lamps
- an open lounge area with additional exercise/study bikes
- a newly created meditation labyrinth located just outside the building
HAWC is a traditional-style hall with large double rooms on a corridor with four private bathrooms on each floor and is the only residence hall located inside Binghamton's central "brain." It's close to the Union/Marketplace and Admissions Center and a quick walk across East Drive to the Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center for dining services. Additionally the East Gym offers FitSpace group exercise, personal training and wellness services, conveniently located just down the hill.
Students living in HAWC are a part of Dickinson Community and will have priority to sign up in Dickinson for their sophomore year. A Health and Wellness Studies class is offered each semester for HAWC students only which meets both Physical Activity/Wellness (B) general education requirement.

The Health and Wellness Community is built upon the foundation of promoting healthy lifestyles, community and student success. HAWC strives to be inclusive and supportive, encouraging each of its members to explore and personally define health and wellness as well as achieve balance while navigating the campus community. This personal exploration is fostered in the community through formal and informal activities and programs that are educational as well as fun.
Who we are
HAWC students represent a wide variety of academic majors, yet share a common interest in healthy lifestyle choices and positive community development. Whether you’re into exercise, nutrition, and game nights with friends or are just interested in learning about health and wellness, this is the place for you!
What we offer
HAWC members actively participate in a variety of activities based on their interest areas and class schedules. Examples of recent activities and offerings include: group exercise classes, hikes, yoga, studying at bicycle desks, meditation in the serenity spaces, and trying out the zipline. Make sure to sign up for the exclusive HWS211 course (which meets your B gen ed requirement)!
New this year, we are partnering with Health Prevention and Promotion Services (HPPS) to start a pilot health and wellness-themed programming series. These programs will revolve around topics such as stress management, alcohol and harm reduction, nutrition and physical activity and men/masculinity. More information coming soon.

Pink Gloves Boxing Classes
We're pleased to announce new Pink Gloves Boxing classes for HAWC residents, from 2/4 to 4/17 in large studio - G27.
Mondays and Wednesdays
