New Fall 2019 Transfer Students
Housing applications will be accepted beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9. The application is available to students who have paid their enrollment deposit and accessed their official Binghamton University email account (Bmail). Please keep in mind that it takes 24 – 48 hours for deposits to be processed. Students who complete a housing application will be sent a time slot for room selection which will take place in June. Watch your Binghamton University email for your room selection time slot which will be sent out in late May. Time slots will be randomly generated by computer. Once assigned, time slots cannot be changed.
We house most of our transfer students in the Apartments Community, located just up the hill in Susquehanna and Hillside. These apartments are reserved for upperclassmen and transfer students and have single bedrooms, full kitchens and ample parking. Residents have access to weekly social events, the Hillside Commons, Susquehanna Coffeehouse and special career-based programming run by our Career and Professional Development Consultant, Laura O'Neill. Although we try to accommodate all requests for housing, we are unable to guarantee on-campus housing for transfer students.
Tips for success
- Read all the information on this web page.
- Watch the housing sign-up videos.
- Pay attention to your Binghamton University email. This is the way we will communicate with you throughout this process.
- Be mindful of details and deadlines.
- If you don't understand something, ask questions. You can call or email Residential Life for assistance.
- Don't put pressure on yourself to find a roommate. It is ok to sign-up alone. Many students choose to do so and end up having great experiences. Single rooms are available in the Apartments Community.
- Keep an open mind about where you live. There is limited space available for transfer students on lower campus. Most of our transfer students live in the Apartments Community but are not required to live on campus.
- Manage your expectations. In the end, you define your experience and can have an amazing one wherever and with whomever you live!
- If you encounter any problems during your time slot for room selection CALL, don't email. This will enable us to assist you on the spot.
The online housing sign-up process happens in TWO parts:
Part 1 – Read and sign your housing license and start using our search tools to look for potential roommates (if you are opting to sign-up with a roommate).
Part 2 – Select your room.
Before you go into the housing portal you will want to take the time to familiarize yourself with the many housing options available to you. You will also want to view our videos. They will take you through the sign-up process step by step. Students who take the time to view the videos find the process to be clear and easy.

Part 1: Registration and roommate pairing (begins April 9)
Login to the housing portal using your Binghamton University account username and password.
- READ and sign the University Housing License.
- PROVIDE your emergency contact information.
- READ and sign Specialty Housing Agreements (only if you are interested in any of the
specialty housing options) – Break Housing, Gender Inclusive, Chemical-Free and/or Quiet Living: If you plan
to live in one of these spaces, you must sign the agreement for your specialty housing
choice. If you are paired with a roommate you will both need to sign the same specialty
- Accepting the Break Housing, Chemical-Free or Quiet-Living agreements adds these room types as options, but does not prevent you from selecting other rooms.
- Accepting Gender-Inclusive Housing will limit you to seeing only Gender-Inclusive rooms/apartments. To see rooms corresponding to your gender as designated in your student record, return to the Gender-Inclusive page and make the appropriate change.
- CONSIDER if you would like to apply for membership in a learning community.
Part 2: Select your room (begins in early June)
- In this step you will actually select your room. Before you begin this step you must complete Step 1.
- Before going into the portal to select your room, visit the available beds link. You will want to have several room options in mind before going into the portal to select your room. If you have paired with a roommate, you will want to have a plan in place in the event you are not able to find a completely vacant double room.
- You can make ONLY ONE selection during the process. Once your room selection is made, the process is complete. Thereafter, you will only be able to make changes after the start of classes once the fall semester room change process opens.

If experiencing problems during your room selection time slot CALL immediately do not email.
Students who select a room during the transfer student housing process, have 14 days from the day they select their room or receive a housing assignment to cancel their housing up until the published residence hall opening date for the fall semester (August 20, 2019).
