Career and Professional Development

One of the many benefits of living within our Communities is easy access to our expert consultants and programming specifically developed for career and professional development. Meet our Career and Professional Development Consultants: Laura O'Neill, Jordan Smith and Erin Wise, who work in collaboration with the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development. They will be working with our residents to help develop resumes and cover letters, explore majors, careers and graduate school options, and find information on jobs and internships. They will have walk-in hours and scheduled appointments conveniently located right in the communities.

Binghamton University and Residential Life are excited to have Laura O'Neill as our own in-residence Career and Professional Development Consultant for the Apartments and Mountainview. Laura's office is located in Susquehanna Community Choconut 102H and at The Career Corner in Hillside Commons, but she is available to meet at other communities as well as the Fleishman Center throughout the week. Laura's main goal is providing outreach and career and professional development education to the residential communities. "We know how busy our students are, so we want to make the whole process more convenient and a little less daunting for them. A student's career does not start the day after they graduate from college; it starts their first day of freshman year. We are here to help guide them through their four years. It's not just about helping with job search and grad school prep, but the whole journey such as choosing a major, career exploration, internships, resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing skills to name a few.

Meet Jordan Smith

Jordan Smith
Binghamton University is happy to welcome Jordan M. Smith, who will be working as a Career Consulting Assistant in Residence for Newing and Dickinson Communities. Jordan's office is located in C4, Office 101E, but he can also be found at the Fleishman Center throughout the week doing walk-ins.

Jordan's main goal is to assist students with their career goals through one-on-one coaching and programming, with a focus on targeting his assigned communities. Jordan recognizes the unique pathways each student takes when going through their career journey. He truly enjoys providing tailored support and guidance for each individual he coaches. He aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge and tools that will best support them in achieving their career dreams.

Meet Erin Wise

Erin Wise
Erin is the newest member of the Fleishman Consultant in Residence team in charge of Hinman and CIW. Her main office space is located in the Hinman Student Success Center, Room 104B, but she will also be holding walk-in appointments in CIW and Fleishman Center. Erin's goal is to make the Fleishman Center resources more accessible to students by offering workshops and career consulting in the residential communities as well as in the Fleishman Center. Erin has a background in social work and is well equipped to guide students through their unique process of career exploration.

Please feel free to schedule an appointment if you feel you need time to discuss in-depth issues. Some of our services, such as mock interviews and career assessment interpretations, require more time and are only offered by appointment. Appointments are 30 minutes.

To schedule an appointment with Fleishman Center staff, please login to your hireBING account and complete your profile. Once your profile is complete:

  • Click "Career Center" in the top navigation of your hireBING homepage
  • Select "Appointments" from the dropdown menu
  • Click the "Schedule A New Appointment" button at the top of the page
  • Select if you are an "Undergraduate" or "Graduate" student
  • Choose your Appointment Type from the options provided
  • Select your preferred appointment date, time and staff member from the list that appears
  • You may enter additional notes describing the nature of your appointment request and click "Request" to secure your appointment
