Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program
The JET Program is an initiative sponsored by the Japanese government to promote internationalization at the grassroots level by bringing young, college-educated individuals to work in communities throughout Japan. Since 1987, over 60,000 participants from countries around the world have come to Japan on the JET Program. JET participants work full-time as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) in the public school system or as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) in local government offices. With the JET Program, participants can gain valuable work experience abroad and explore a rich and historical culture. For more information follow the link above and this one to the Embassy of japan in the United States, http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/JET/.
You can apply for the JET Programme even if you do not speak any Japanese. However, if accepted you are expected to make a continual effort to learn and improve your Japanese skills in order to better communicate with the people around you.
