Michael Collyer Screenwriting Award
The Michael Collyer Memorial Fellowship in Screenwriting is a one-year fellowship that is awarded to an undergraduate student who plans to pursue a career in screenwriting on completion of his or her undergraduate degree in spring/summer 2018. The winner receives a $10,000 stipend to write an original screenplay and is mentored during the course of the fellowship year by a prominent screenwriter. This program is a partnership between the Writers Guild Initiative and the King Family Foundation, hosted by the Black List.
The purpose of the fellowship is to provide an opportunity for a graduating senior to develop an original screenplay and assist in transitioning into the professional world of screenwriting. The MCMF specifically seeks diverse and emerging voices with stories that are character driven and personal in nature. The Foundation considers feature film scripts only (no shorts or TV pilots).
Applicants must host their script on blcklst.com for at least one week before October 1, 2017. Scripts will be viewed by top producers, directors, filmmakers, and agents – potentially those in the industry that can help get a project made. The fellowship recipient will be selected by the end of the calendar year and may have the opportunity to attend the Writers Guild Awards in February 2018.
To host your script, first create an account at https://blcklst.com/register/writer. Upload your feature length screenplay, select “feature script into consideration for fellowship”. The first 30 opt-ins to the fellowship are free, but few spots are remaining, so we encourage you to host your script as soon as possible.
