Advocacy and the CARE Team

The CARE Team's case managers are here to listen, support and help students navigate their best paths to success. They respect, do not judge and will advocate for students if needed. They are the liaisons between students and challenges, and will inform, advise and accompany students in their role as advocates.

How do case managers advocate?

Case managers help students cope with complex situations. One way case managers help students is by helping them identify what is important, and then mapping out plans of action based upon students' strengths, needs and goals. Case managers can help students connect with other service providers and be with them at court, police stations, hospitals, appointments, etc. as needed or wanted.

How is case management different from working with the University Counseling Center?

The University Counseling Center (UCC) provides ongoing therapy, skill building and consultation. While there is some overlap in consultation services, the CARE Team helps with short-term planning and coordination of care. UCC is a confidential source — information remains with the student and the Center — and is not obligated to report to the Title IX Coordinator or anyone else unless there is imminent concern for safety. Case managers work as a private source; they are obligated to report known names and facts to the Title IX Coordinator.
