Ricky is also a second-year Community Schools graduate assistant at the Center for Civic Engagement where she specializes in recruiting and training volunteers, collaborating with the community, and creative problem solving.
Most influential class: All of them! However, CCPA 580 Intro to Academic Writing should be a requirement for everyone.
Fun fact: Ricky would like to pursue a career in solid waste management. As an AmeriCorps VISTA alum, Ricky is proud to have served the South Coast at Sharing the Harvest Community Farm in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Having grown up on a farm in upstate New York, Ricky enjoys hard work, simple pleasures, and being outdoors. Ricky especially loves mountain biking and has learned that the uphills are worth the downhills.

Academic Interest: Social Equity and Youth Empowerment
Reason for choosing the SC Masters program: Lucia decided to enroll in the SC program because she believes there is much to apply from this area of study into Human Rights and the social struggles towards equity. She wants to bring the knowledge and practice to help vulnerable communities (from the bottom - up) plan for their own benefit with a strong approach in sustainability.
Fun Fact: Lucia hates snow and being cold, yet she lives in Binghamton! (Just kidding). Lucia is also the mother of two amazing little women.

Thesis Topic: Food and Culture: How food accessibility plays a role in culture and identity.
Reason for choosing the SC Masters program: Kaitlyn applied for the MS Sustainable Communities Program because she had been working in the agriculture field in the Binghamton area and was looking for a higher degree program to help advance her career. The program's interdisciplinary approach to sustainability was appealing because it could apply to both Kaitlyn's personal life growing up on a farm and to the urban settings she lives in today.
Fun Fact: Kaitlyn manages a family business in Ohio remotely from New York.

Reason For Choosing the SC Masters: Emily is pursuing a double master's degree in Sustainable Communities and Public Administration. She wishes to use the degrees to put herself in a sustainable administrative position to help people change their perspectives about sustainability. She hopes to be a voice and a leader to guide communities through future battles the sustainability movement will face and have a profound effect towards a healthier, sustainable future.

Reason for choosing the SC Masters program: Annisia chose the SC program because she is interested in finding ways to holistically change the issues the average person faces within underserved communities. The Sustainable Communities program's interdisciplinary approach fits her goal perfectly.
Fun Fact: Annisia has a LLC called Letting Every Voice Be Heard aimed at educating people on how to reduce, reuse and recycle. On August 18th Annisia had an event called "Swap, Shop and Donate" aimed at providing residents on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with gently used clothing to prevent textiles from entering landfills.

Fun Fact: In her year between graduating from Villanova and attending BU for the Master's program, Ashley lived and worked abroad. She performed GIS analyses to optimize water distribution routes in Madagascar and worked on environmental and human rights policies in Kenya.

Reason for choosing the SC Masters program: Gillian chose the SC program because it allows her to continue her education in environmental regulation and sustainability. She is completing a double master's in Public Administration and Sustainable Communities in the hopes of becoming a local governmental environmental planner. This program has shown her the many sides of environmental issues that we face every day and how to work to solve some of them.
Fun Fact: Gillian performed at the pregame show of the 2014 Super Bowl XLVIII with her college marching band.
