Master Class Day

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018

High School Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend a day of master classes and workshops with the Theatre Department's faculty in Acting, Directing, Dance, Musical Theatre, Design and Technical Theatre.

Students will get tips about auditioning for undergraduate and conservatory program, how to prepare for the application process and a taste of what a day in taking theatre, dance and technical classes are like!

Students will get to to see behind the scenes of our first mainstage production of the year, visit the scene and costume shops, and see various styles of performance venues we have the opportunity to work in, ranging from a 120 seat black box theater to a 1237 seat concert theater.

Registration for Master Class Day is now closed.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 in the Anderson Center (AC) Chamber Hall with all students participating. Students can be dropped off at the main entrance of the Anderson Center in Lot C. 

Lunch (pizza, vegetables, fruit, chips, beverages) will be provided for the students. Students should bring a bottle of water to keep with them for the day. 


Acting, Dance and Musical Theatre Schedule

Students attending these sessions should come dressed in clothing ready for movement. Dance shoes are welcome but not required. Flexible sneakers will work in lieu of dance shoes. 

9–9:30 a.m. Check In

9:30 a.m. Meet Theatre Faculty and Staff in AC Chamber Hall 

10–11:30 a.m. Broadway Dance Techniques with David Wynen in 93A

11:30 a.m.–Noon Tour of theaters, shops and classrooms

Noon–1 p.m. LUNCH with current Binghamton Theatre students in Theatre Green Room, lunch provided.

1–2:30 p.m. Acting for the Stage with Anne Brady in Studio A.

2:30–4 p.m. Musical Theater Singing with Peter Sicilian in Studio A

4–4:30 p.m. How to Master Auditions with David Wynen (Location TBA)

4:30–5 p.m. Q & A/Wrap Up with all in AC Chamber Hall


Design and Technical Theatre Schedule

Students attending these sessions should come with a notebook/sketch pad (no larger than 9x12) for taking notes and drafting ideas. 

9–9:30 a.m. Check In

10–10:30 a.m. Tour of theaters, shops and classrooms

10:30 a.m.–Noon Scenic and entertainment design with Laura Fine Hawkes (Location TBA)

Noon–1 p.m. LUNCH with current Binghamton Theatre students in Theatre Green Room, lunch provided.

1-2:30 p.m. Costume design and sewing session in the Costume Shop with Andrea Lenci in B41

2:30-4 p.m. Sound and lighting design lab with Craig Saeger in AC Chamber Hall. 

4:00-4:30 p.m. What's in your future? An Overview of Careers in Entertainment, Design and Technology with Laura Fine Hawkes (Location TBA)

4:30–5 p.m. Q & A/Wrap Up with all in AC Chamber Hall
