The Career Collaborative

Introducing the Career Collaborative

The mission of the Fleishman Career Center is to create pathways for all Binghamton University students to explore, pursue, and achieve fulfilled lives through a dynamic network of opportunities and connections.

To show our commitment to building these pathways, we have established the Career Collaborative. The Career Collaborative is a multifaceted initiative for faculty and staff to co-create meaningful career education opportunities in partnership with our team. Similar to our transformational career education initiatives geared toward students, the Collaborative will provide relevant tools, resources, education, recognition and networking events, funding opportunities and transformational services geared toward our partners, in order to immerse 100% of students in career and personal growth.

The Career Collaborative includes:

  • Faculty and staff partnerships
  • The Career to Classroom Fellowship Program (Launching in Fall 2023)
  • The Career Champions Breakfast
  • Co-curricular and extracurricular career education initiatives

Become part of the Career Collaborative

Faculty and Staff are welcome to join the Career Collaborative at any time by filling out the interest form so that we can be more aware of how faculty and staff are leveraging career education among students and understand where more support is needed. A representative from the Fleishman Career Center will reach out to you with more information.

Join the Collaborative

Why is it important? To scale career education to reach all students.

Equity is our focus.

College is a pivotal time for exploration, building confidence and skills, and preparing for the future. Students also pursue higher education to improve career mobility, leading to better employment opportunities and earning potential for themselves and their families. Academic and staff professionals in higher education play an integral role in closing the career mobility gap for students, and for minoritized and first generation college students in particular, who may have limited social capital and lack of clarity for setting goals. By intentionally integrating career education in the classroom and student life in general, we can address structural barriers to students’ access to career knowledge, skills and opportunities.

By explicitly and transparently linking classroom content and course outcomes to the world of work, you will help students bridge their academic experiences to their career interests, which creates more engaged and motivated students!

Funding opportunity: Classroom to Career Fellows Program

The Classroom to Career Fellows Program provides an opportunity for faculty and Fleishman Career Center staff to co-create transparent and intentionally designed career education opportunities based on faculty goals and student needs within an existing course/curriculum. Fellows and Fleishman staff will work together to define how integrating career education into the curriculum will support professional teaching, course outcomes and student engagement in a supportive cohort environment.

During fall semester, cohort members will identify a spring course to be modified. Through brief online asynchronous modules, an in-person interactive workshop and an individual consulting appointment with Fleishman Career staff, cohort members will gain a foundation in career education, in addition to career tools, resources and adaptable sample assignments that can be incorporated into the classroom. Instructors/Faculty will then implement the course in the spring, followed by an in-person debriefing workshop for reflection. This program is open to all instructors of every rank and discipline.

Spaces for the 2023–24 cohort have been filled. The 2024–25 Classroom to Career Fellows program will open applications at the start of the fall 2024 semester. In the meantime, we encourage you to fill out our interest form to connect with the Fleishman Career Center and learn about other ways to get involved with the Career Collaborative.
