Metro Connections Night/Binghamton in the City

Approximately 50,000 alumni and 17,000 students.

What is it?

Metro New York is the epicenter of our alumni network and the source of nearly 50 percent of Binghamton University's student population. This creates a multitude of opportunities to engage alumni who are among our most loyal supporters in programs that further the career and professional development of our current students. Each January, Binghamton University goes to New York City for Binghamton in the City, which is a week filled a series of career discovery and networking events during winter recess. Our alumni are eager to share their Binghamton stories and offer advice, and the students are able to explore career fields and employers while making valuable connections.

Metro Connections Night is the capstone event of the week at which more than 700 students, parents, alumni and campus partners gather and connect. Students gain resources to develop professionally and make connections by speaking with alumni working in the city. More than 50 alumni-hosted employer site visits are offered along with academic courses, alumni shadowing experiences and networking events.

Cheers to Commencement: President's Champagne Sendoff

How far is our reach?

Approximately 4,500 students.

What is it?

Sponsored by the Alumni Association, Campus Activities and the Office of the President, we host a champagne toast each May for approximately 500 graduating undergraduate and graduate students. At this event, students can get professional photos taken for free at the berm, enjoy food from local restaurants and a champagne toast with President Harvey Stenger. After they are "toasted" by University President Harvey Stenger students may keep their commemorative champagne glass.

Cool Connections, Hot Alumni

How far is our reach?

Approximately 17,000 current students.

What is it?

The "Cool Connections, Hot Alumni" student-alumni speaker series is a unique and innovative program which connects Binghamton University students with successful alumni either face-to-face on campus or via videoconferencing technology.

Launched in the spring 2011 semester, this award-winning program allows students to make a connection with Binghamton University alumni from trending or interesting fields. These events provide an opportunity for alumni, regardless of where they live and work, to speak with students and answer questions about their Binghamton experience and their transition to their present career. 

Each student-alumni event is an intimate experience limited to 30-50 students and is held in the Alumni Center Lounge. If the speaker participates virtually, the Alumni Center Lounge is equipped with Polycom videoconferencing software as well as large screens and sound capabilities for students to see, hear and interact with the alumni speaker and vice versa. If the event is in-person, the room provides a comfortable space for easy conversation.
