Individual Leadership Awards

Distinguished Student President Award

This award recognizes an outstanding individual who publicly advanced the mission of their organization while internally challenged and encouraged the membership to advance new initiatives, acquire new skills, and prepare the group for leadership transition and ongoing success. The nominee must be serving in at least their second consecutive semester as president.

Accomplished Graduate Student of the Year Award

This award recognizes a graduate student enrolled in a master's or doctoral level program at Binghamton University who has made distinguished contributions to their academic program, the student body, student organizations, the Binghamton University community, and/or the Greater Binghamton community.

Emerging Leader Award

This award recognizes an individual who has established themselves as a rising leader through significant contributions to their organizations, team, or staff group. The nominee may be a first-year student, sophomore, junior or senior, however, they may not be the president of their organization.

Paul J. Battaglia Outstanding Student Leader of the Year Memorial Award

This award is presented annually to a student who demonstrates the exceptional leadership traits needed to transform student life at Binghamton University. Students under consideration for this award should possess the ability to motivate others, exhibit well-developed communication skills, have a strong academic performance, display leadership in student organizations and service to others, and demonstrate a commitment to improving the college community.

Note: If you are submitting this nomination for someone else, please make sure to ask an additional faculty or staff member to submit a letter of recommendation. If you are nominating yourself for this award, two letters of recommendation from a current faculty or staff member are required.

Student Organization Awards

Cultural and Diversity Initiative of the Year

This award recognizes the student organization that has taken an active role in supporting the University's commitment to the appreciation and enhancement of diversity. This award is designed to recognize a University-recognized student organization whose programs emphasize inclusivity and multicultural values.

Collaborative Program of the Year

This award recognizes the student organizations who co-sponsored the most outstanding and creative, educational, social, recreational or service-based program for the Binghamton University community. To be eligible for this award, two or more student organizations must have actively collaborated and equally contributed during all phases of the program or community service project. These organizations demonstrate that they take pride in collaborating with other students, staff, faculty and organizations to deliver the best program possible.

Excellence in Service Award

This award recognizes the most outstanding contributions made by a student organization(s) for developing and implementing a community service activity, civic engagement project, or philanthropic endeavor that met or advanced the needs of the University or local community. A community service activity or civic engagement project is defined as supporting a cause through a deed or physical service. A philanthropic activity is defined as one that supports a cause through the collection or raising of goods, monies or awareness. Service activities, civic engagement projects or philanthropic endeavors may not be primarily designed to raise awareness of the student organization or raise money or collect goods for the student organizations.

Exceptional Event of the Year

This award recognizes the student organization that planned and implemented the most outstanding program or community service project. This award may be awarded to a multi-event series, a one-time event, a community-service project, or other type of event. The winning event will be one that raises the University's visibility to the greater Binghamton community and continues to positively impact the University community after its completion.

Outstanding Organization of the Year

This award seeks to recognize one University recognized student organization each year that has demonstrated true excellence among its peers within the University community. Application materials must demonstrate the organization's contribution to the overall Binghamton University community, contribution to the development of its members, and demonstrated commitment to the organization's purpose and those served by it. The organization should be able to demonstrate significant development in areas that may include innovative and creative programming, as well as outreach within the Binghamton University community and the local community.

Note: All events nominated in these categories must have occurred between April 2018-April 2019.
