Position Description
FaHN is offering an internship opportunity for a motivated student with mapping and GIS skills. The internship offers out of classroom experience creating maps to be used in FaHN's 8-county regional assessment of the Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally-funded, state-administered program that provides funding to serve free meals when school is out. These meals help prevent hunger in children ages 18 and younger.

Maps will identify childhood hunger and food insecurity, summer meal site locations, and school student eligibility in the National School Lunch Program. The goal of the county maps is to visually display gaps in summer meals access. Maps are needed for Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins counties.

This unpaid internship position is 6-8 weeks in length. Hours worked each week are fairly flexible. The intern will work with the FaHN AmeriCorps VISTA member, who is the project lead of the Summer Food Service Program Regional Assessment. The intern will be able to work remotely, with periodic meetings with FaHN staff.

This internship opportunity will allow a student to practice problem solving skills while gaining recognition for your contributions to the assessment.

To apply for the internship, please submit a resume and sample of your work via email to Maggie Reeger, vista-fahn@rhnscny.org. Contact Maggie with any questions you have about the internship.
