Clinical requirements

Three courses within the RN-BS program require clinical project/experience hours:

  • NURS Z382 — Population Health: Promotion and Prevention (20 hours)
  • NURS Z384 — Population Health: Chronic Illness (20 hours)
  • NURS Z484 — Leadership and Management (60 hours; these clinical hours must be completed in an outside agency
    • Prior to enrolling in NURS Z484, students must:
      • Complete all health and clinical practice requirements
      • Identify a site and preceptor that meet course objectives
      • Get approval for the site and preceptor from the course instructor

Health/clinical practice requirements

Students enrolled in NURS Z484 must comply with regulations set by the Decker School of Nursing (within Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences), Binghamton University, clinical agencies, and the Department of Health for the state in which you complete your clinical experiences.

Compliance is verified prior to and immediately following all deadlines. Failure to comply and/or maintain health/clinical practice requirements will result in the inability to complete clinical coursework and negatively impact your time to degree. Clinical uniforms

Enrolled students follow the uniform policy and dress code regulations of the agency in which they are participating for clinical experience(s). An official Binghamton University ID card must be displayed at all times. 

Additional Costs

In addition to tuition and fees, enrolled students are responsible for the cost of: 

  • Uniforms (as identified by clinical agencies)
  • Equipment
  • Health/clinical practice requirements including the medical document manager
  • Transportation and travel for clinical
  • Textbooks and course materials
  • Personal protective equipment (as identified by clinical agencies)
  • Malpractice insurance fee (incorporated into the University bill on each semester that a clinical nursing course is taken)
