The BU Foundation DAF was formed to further the educational purposes of the State University of New York at Binghamton by attracting and facilitating financial support for the Binghamton University Foundation by establishing a donor-advised fund that will allow grants to the Foundation and grants to other appropriate charitable organizations.
With the formation of this donor-advised fund, the Foundation will be positioned to market the existence of the fund as part of its fundraising efforts. Contributions to donor-advised funds established an all-time high of $22.26 billion in 2015, the most recent data available. These contributions represented 8.4 percent of total individual giving in the U.S., also a new high. With total donor-advised fund assets over $78 billion, the Foundation’s board of directors hopes to capture some of this market and provide benefit to the University.
