Biography
Laura Warren Hill is a historian and an associate professor of human development at Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs. Her teaching interests center on the history of race, gender and class in the United States and beyond, with a particular interest in social movements and how the dispossessed act as agents in society and politics. Most recently, her work centers on carceral studies, with a specific focus on the wrongful conviction of women. She is the co-founder of the Upstate New York Policing Research Consortium (UNY-PRC) and helped build the UNY-PRC Digital Archive of Policing and Incarceration. She maintains an active research agenda and welcomes new student interns into UNY-PRC and co-publishing opportunities with undergraduate and graduate students.
Additionally, Hill serves as a Faculty in Residence in the Apartment Community, where she brings together living and learning opportunities, helping students connect their academic life with their life outside the classroom. She serves as a mentor and advisor, providing students with a place to turn for questions about academic and non-academic concerns. Hill works to connect students to campus programs and services, and to foster faculty and student interaction. She works closely with Residential Life staff to help plan and implement educational, academic, social and cultural programs, and to build strong and supportive residential communities.
