Background

Yeshing is a Mayan Kaqchikel woman from Guatemala. She is an advocate for the rights of Indigenous Peoples and women and has worked in the legal field. Her focus has been on the compliance of the collective rights of women and Indigenous Peoples.

Yeshing has undertaken numerous technical and policy activities related to women and indigenous peoples and their collective rights at the local, national, regional and international levels. She is currently a member of the Indigenous Women's Biodiversity Network, is also a member of the Nagoya Protocol Compliance Committee representing the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB), was Co-Chair of the Group of Specialists on Indigenous Peoples, Customary, Environmental and Human Rights of the CEESP (Commission on Economic, Social and Environmental Policies),  was also co-chair of the tenth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Intersessional Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions of the CBD, served as focal point for Indigenous Peoples of Latin America in the GEF-CSO, served as Alternate Focal Point of the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group of the GEF, was focal point of the REDD+ SES International Standards Committee on Indigenous Peoples' Rights, and has participated in the dialogue on Indigenous Peoples' Rights in the REDD+ SES International Standards Committee. In addition, he has participated in the dialogue on global issues by attending conferences and events such as: Conferences of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Conventions on Climate Change, UN Convention on Biological Diversity, World Conservation Congress and Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council meetings. This has contributed to being present in the dialogues, analysis, construction of proposals and determination of strategies among women and indigenous peoples, facing the challenges for the recognition of their collective rights as women and as peoples and the strengthening of actions and practices at the local, national, regional and international level.
