Harpur Edge is expanding its offerings this spring to give graduate and undergraduate students more opportunities to maximize their Harpur College experience.

This semester, Harpur Edge has expanded its “crash course” programs. In addition to courses in Python coding, social media communication plans and tableau data visualization, it will also offer classes in Excel and TikTok this April. The programs are open to any Harpur undergraduate or graduate student, regardless of discipline or major.

“We are excited to expand the professional development offerings, especially now as students face increasing competition for opportunities,” director Erin Cody said. “We know these skills will give them an edge against the competition, no matter what internships or jobs they may consider applying for.”

Graduate student Shahadath Hossain will teach “Excel Skills for Data Science” on April 11. Topics will include:

  • Basic setup and using Excel
  • Data manipulation, formatting and analysis
  • Data visualization
  • Macros and formula types
  • VLOOKUP and pivot tables
  • Visual basic applications (VBA)

Registration will open on B-Engaged Saturday, March 27.

TikTok is more than just viral dance videos. Graduate student Theresa Kadish will show you the platform’s possibilities in “Digital Storytelling with TikTok” on April 25. Participants will take a brief but immersive dive into the TikTok ecosystem, and explore how the platform can be used to effectively communicate about their work and enhance their career goals. Registration will open on B-Engaged Saturday, April 10.

Also new this semester is the Harpur Edge Connection Builder program. Harpur juniors and seniors who already have networking or shadowing experience will have the opportunity to mentor other undergraduates exploring the same avenues. Applications closed March 12, and the program will be hosted virtually for four weeks

“We designed the program to help students set goals that will lead to shadowing and internship experiences in the future for participants,” Cody said.

In addition to these new programs, Harpur Edge continues to offer multiple resources for students’ intellectual, professional and personal development. Learn more online.
