Binghamton School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences welcomes new class, faculty and, opportunities
67 new students, four faculty members, and two clubs will call SOPPS home this fall
Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS) is ready to begin an exciting fall semester!
From welcoming in the Class of 2030 to exploring new clubs, meeting new faculty, and a long list of events and professional development opportunities, this year at Binghamton University will be one to remember.
New students!
Kicking off the school year, SOPPS will be introducing its newest members to campus today, Monday, Aug. 17. We’ve stayed true to our small class-size-to-professor ratio with a current 67 students joining the 2026 P1 cohort.
58% of our next student class identifies as female, with an average age of 22 years old. They were strong students before coming to Binghamton University SOPPS, with an average GPA of 3.26!
These soon-to-be colleagues will be joining us from around the Eastern Seaboard, with members coming from New Jersey, Maryland, and Connecticut. But by far the largest demographic will be the 59 students joining us from our home state of New York.
Of the 67 students in the incoming cohort, more than half are Binghamton University graduates, highlighting the strong connection we have with our undergraduate students and the continued interest in our PharmD program from within the University. Four students from Stony Brook University and two from SUNY Broome Community College will also be joining us, among a diverse group of other institutions, including SUNY and CUNY campuses, community colleges throughout New York, and colleges and universities in other states and internationally.
Additionally, 57 of our students received merit-based scholarships, totaling $395,540.
Here at SOPPS, with our record-breaking 90.1% first-time NAPLEX passing scores, a 100% P1/P2 match rate, and 94% alumni base employed in the pharmacy field, your future is bright — and we can’t wait to see what you do with it!
New clubs!
Classes will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 18. Our newest students will mark their entrance into the profession with the annual White Coat Ceremony, both celebrating their achievement and taking up the mantel and responsibilities of pharmacy, on Saturday, Aug. 22.
For students interested in picking up a new hobby or joining a club, the Student Organization Fair will take place Wednesday, Aug. 26! For the first time this year, students can join the Integrative Medicine in Pharmacy (IMP) and Veterinary Pharmacy Club (VPhC), in addition to a variety of other exciting options!
A chance to begin thinking about your future will take place on Friday, Sept. 18, with the Career/IPPE Fair; that same day, The Rural and Underserved Service Track (TRUST) will close its application, so be sure to apply beforehand if interested in interprofessional opportunities and the chance to participate in exciting retreats on Sunday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 15.
Then, we’ll welcome our alumni back to campus with Homecoming on Oct. 2-4, with a variety of activities and exciting opportunities to enjoy. P3 APPE Ranking and Spin will also take place in October/November. Keep your eye on the B-Engaged Calendar for other events as they appear!
New faculty!
We’ll also be joined by four new faculty members this year, with specialties in toxicology, pharmacology, infectious diseases, and population health, including the returning William Eggleston, clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice. Other members include:
- Daniel Ciulla, assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences, joining us from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS),
- Islam M. Ghazi, experiential education coordinator and clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice, joining us from Long Island University (LIU), and
- Patrick Meek, clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice, joining us from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS).
With a new class ready to make its mark, new faculty bringing fresh perspectives, and a year full of opportunities ahead, there’s never been a more exciting time to be part of SOPPS.
