Ranking of 200+ institutions takes into account academic rigor, student ratings of career services at their school, and salary information from PayScale.com
Princeton Review, one of the nation’s leading college admission resources for prospective students, is labeling Binghamton University as the best in the State University of New York system for return on investment and helping students land a career.
In its Best Value Colleges rankings for 2027, Binghamton University is ranked the #19 best value public institution in the country for students. This distinction lands Binghamton as the only SUNY university in the top 20 nationally and is a recognition of Binghamton’s strong academics, generous financial aid, and low cost of attendance.
Binghamton University was also rated as the best SUNY institution for career placements for students – rated the #14 public university in that category. Since first appearing on this list at #19 in 2021, Assistant Vice President for Student Success Kelli Smith attributes the University’s climb up the rankings over the past several years to the faculty, staff, administrators, and offices across campus that contribute to student career readiness.
Smith notes that work-based experience is widespread across campus, with 79% of students completing an internship or similar experience while at Binghamton, and that SUNY’s commitment to internship opportunities helped enable the University to expand its employer-facing team and create new pipelines for all students. She also credited the University’s engaged alumni community and the resulting growth in employer relationships as contributors to students’ career outcomes.
“I think it's a reflection of our entire campus commitment. It isn't just one office. It's not just one person,” Smith said. “It's a real culture of career preparedness that we've been able to build over a decade.”
In addition to its best value and career placement ranking, Princeton Review also ranked Binghamton University the #10 best value public university in the nation for students with no demonstrated need.
Princeton Review ranks universities' value based on its Return On Investment rating. This rating consists of information submitted by universities about academic selectivity, admissions, and need-based aid given to students. This is combined with student insights on the education they receive from their university and satisfaction with their aid packages. An institution’s tuition, fees, room and board costs, and average student aid is also taken into account.
The career placements ranking by Princeton Review is compiled from student ratings of career services at their school, as well as alumni salary information from PayScale.com.
