Welcome
The Pharmacy Scholars program offers Binghamton University Scholars a streamlined, supported pathway into the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. As a Scholar, you’ll gain early exposure to the PharmD environment, connect with faculty mentors and explore pharmacy through hands-on learning and research opportunities. You’ll also receive key benefits such as priority registration through your undergraduate prerequisites and access to your one-time $3,500 Scholars high-impact experience award to support study abroad, internships, or mentored research. For eligible Scholars who meet prerequisites and apply on time, the program also provides a guaranteed admissions interview for the PharmD program — giving you a clear, confident path to explore a future career in pharmacy.
There are two distinct paths Pharmacy Scholars can take
- PharmD Students Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (3+4 with BS/BA, Scholars Minor):
- Scholars choosing this scenario will remain under the supervision of the Binghamton University Scholars Program until they have been awarded their bachelor's degree.
- These students will typically receive a bachelor's degree at the end of their first (P1) year.
- In order to graduate with honors, all Scholars Program requirements must be completed by the time the bachelor's degree is awarded and many of those requirements can be achieved through coursework required by SOPPS.
- In this scenario, Scholars wishing to access their Scholars $3500 award in support of a qualifying activity must apply to use the award before they finish their bachelor's degree.
- PharmD Students NOT Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (2+4 no undergrad degree, no minor):
- In this scenario a Binghamton University Scholar student will transition to become a Pharmacy Scholar on the first day of the P1 year.
- Students will transfer into the Pharmacy Scholars program on the first day of the P1 year. The criteria for the distinction of honors remains the same as in the Binghamton University Scholars Program.
- At the completion of the P4 year, the SOPPS Office of Academic Affairs will ensure the honors notation is added to the transcript and included in the commencement program for students that meet the criteria for the honors distinction.
- Scholars who have not previously accessed their $3500 award as undergraduates may do so as Pharmacy Scholars. Qualifying Pharmacy Scholars can access the $3500 award anytime between the beginning of the first (P1) and end of the fourth (P4) professional years. The award funds will be administered by the SOPPS Office of Student Affairs.
- The Office of Student Affairs will assist Scholars in meeting requirements and applying for their grant if they have not used it in their first 2 or 3 years as an undergraduate.
- The Office of Academic Affairs will add a transcript notation and program addition at commencement identifying them as a Pharmacy Scholar.
