Do you have an interest in Biomedical Research and getting a STEM bachelor’s degree at Binghamton University?
The goal of the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Research Training Program is to prepare a diverse cohort of research-oriented students to transfer from associate degree-granting institutions (Onondaga Community College, Monroe Community College, or Westchester Community College) to Binghamton University (BU) to complete a baccalaureate degree in biomedical science. The program provides structured activities at both the community college and at BU to to support students in preparation for a research career in biomedical science. Note: this program is not for students interested in pre-health careers.
This program provides support to full-time underrepresented community college students from Monroe Community College, Onondaga Community College, or Westchester Community College who want to transfer to Binghamton University and pursue science. The support includes 60% tuition for one semester at the community college and 3 semesters of full tuition and fees at Binghamton University, along with a $14,340.00 stipend per year for two years-- plus a $3000 stipend for summer research in the first summer after community college (two year total stipend = $31,680.00). Students are required to work in research laboratories 10-12 hours per week during the academic year and up to 30 hours per week during the summer.

Requirements
- Applicants must be a full-time Monroe, Onondaga, or Westchester Community College students from underrepresented groups who are United States citizens or permanent residents with an interest in conducting biomedical research and obtaining a STEM bachelor’s degree
- Belong to a NIH under-represented population (see https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-031.html)
- Individuals from racial and ethnic groups that have been shown by the National Science Foundation to be underrepresented in health-related sciences on a national basis. The following racial and ethnic groups have been shown to be underrepresented in biomedical research: Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders.
- Individuals with disabilities, who are defined as those with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as described in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
- Individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (economic disadvantaged, first generation student) see https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines
- GPA of 3.0 that includes some science/math courses
