Science and Technology Entry Program

The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Binghamton University provides academic support, retention services, and post-secondary guidance to New York State historically underrepresented and financially disadvantaged middle and high school students. Through outreach, education, and access to knowledge and resources, STEP will help alleviate the effects of structural barriers to STEM education and STEM careers.

This program provides STEM-related after school and Saturday programming to supplement students' curriculum, as well as to support and increase their readiness and competitiveness when pursuing a post-secondary education in STEM fields or licensed professions.

How Daniel Rohde Created an Impact

At Johnson City Middle School, an eighth-grade student named Daniel Rohde stands out for his civic-minded spirit. This school year, Daniel became a part of the Binghamton University Liberty Partnership Program, where he discovered a passion for community service and collaboration.

Daniel's inspiration for this project traced back to his experience at "Splash! At Cornell," an event he attended through another program he's involved in, the Binghamton University Science Technology Entry Program (BU STEP). BU STEP not only provides STEM activities but also encourages students to explore various fields through college visits and unique experiences like "Splash! At Cornell."
