The Department of Public Administration and Policy is focused on helping students develop in-demand, marketable skills for rewarding careers in public, nonprofit organizations and the private sector.
In the MPA program our mission is to enhance the commitment and capacity of our students to be effective public service leaders, who are equipped to:
- make evidence‐based decisions;
- recognize and rectify inequities;
- promote inclusive institutions;
- embrace democratic processes;
- adapt to changing circumstances; and
- model high ethical standards.
In the MPP program students develop globally marketable skills applicable to real-world international settings, equipping them with the following skills :

Sustainable Communities (MS) students develop an intellectual and experiential understanding of sustainability and its three pillars. We teach them how to:
- communicate effectively about sustainability to different audiences and for different purposes
- understand the ethical implications of sustainability practices from diverse cultural, political and social perspectives
- apply and assess sustainability policies in various settings
- translate community needs into meaningful policy solutions

Binghamton University’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) is a marketable professional degree that prepares students for management careers in government and nonprofit organizations.

With a variety of roles to fill in every city and state, MPA students are attractive hires for positions that allow them to make positive change. Our one year, exclusively online, Master of Public Policy (MPP) program is designed for students committed to addressing public policy challenges and developing sustainable solutions.
Our emphasis on strong analytical skills, effective global communication and comprehensive policy knowledge prepares students for rewarding careers.
Our classes
Our courses are offered entirely online and asynchronously, allowing flexibility in location and schedules.

Our flexible two-year Master of Science (MS) in Sustainable Communities program is ideal for students committed to making the world a more livable place.
