Applications invited for Data Science TWG Small Grants Program.
The Data Science Transdisciplinary Working Group (DS-TWG) invites proposals for small grants related to data science research and training (including educational activities such as workshops and lectures). Up to $3,000 is available per project. Proposals are encouraged from any field that applies and/or develops data science and analytics approaches, but priority will be given to projects that foster inter-departmental collaborations with the potential to result in external funding. The proposal can be up to 2 pages in length, and it should clearly describe the project objectives, specific roles of the PI and any co-PI's, proposed methodology and timeline, expected outcomes, details on how the funds will be used and target funding programs for future support (in the case of research proposals.) A training proposal should also include a list of potential speakers, lecturers, or panelists and elaborate on the theme and intellectual merit of the proposed activities, the benefit of the proposed activities to the greater data science faculty and students, the contribution to graduate and undergraduate student education, and potential audience. In addition, please include brief biographical sketches for all PI's and co-PI's involved (< 2 pages each). Proposals will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the funding is expended. Review of the proposals will start on October 23, 2017 and proposals submitted by that date are guaranteed full consideration. Proposals should be submitted electronically by emailing pdf's to xqiao@binghamton.edu. Funding will be available for immediate use after the proposal is awarded and should be used before June 30, 2018. Contact the DS TWG steering committee members (https://www.binghamton.edu/transdisciplinary-areas-of-excellence/data-science/about/steering-committee.html) with any questions, and join the mailing list for more details (requests to be added to the mail list may be sent to xqiao@binghamton.edu).
