Background

Stacey Pavelko joined Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences in September 2022 as an associate professor in the Division of Speech and Language Pathology.

Pavelko has an active research program focused on language sampling practices; emergent literacy, with a specific emphasis in emergent writing; and interprofessional education/practice. Together with her colleague, Bob Owens, they have developed the SUGAR method of language sampling.

Previously, she was the assistant program director at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and an associate professor and undergraduate program director at James Madison University.  As a clinician, she worked in the schools with children and families from many culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
