Watson College Dean Krishnaswami "Hari" Srihari visited Tuskegee University on July
17, touring the campus and meeting with faculty members and administrators. The next
steps for newERA will focus on collaboration in materials science and engineering,
including lightweight materials, metallurgy and additive manufacturing/deposition
of metals as well as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence/machine learning applied
to grids (including but not limited to smart grids and power systems).
SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Daryl Santos visited Prairie View A&M University
in June 2023 to outline how the Watson Institute for Systems Excellence (WISE) and
his team (Institute for Advanced Studies) work with industrial partners.
Watson College's Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering departments are working
with colleagues at Prairie View on a seminar series for fall 2023. Tthe first seminar
by CS Professor Weiying Dai will focus on data science for medical imaging.
Professor Paul Chiarot, chair of Watson's Mechanical Engineering Department, is working
with colleagues at Central State University on semiconductor fabrication. Binghamton
and CSU submitted a collaborative grant proposal to the National Science Foundation
titled "Training the Next Generation Workforce in Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing."
Professor Yu Chen from Watson's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
and Professor Dmitry Ponomorev from the Department of Computer Science are working
with colleagues at Virginia State University on initiatives related to cybersecurity.
Colleagues from Virginia State are scheduled to visit Binghamton this fall.
Distinguished Professor and Nobel Laureate M. Stanley Whittingham gave a talk at Alabama
A&M University on Sept. 15 for the 23rd Putcha Venkateswarlu Memorial Lecture.
SUNY Distinguished Professor Mohammad Khasawneh, chair of the Department of Systems
Science and Industrial Engineering, has made two presentations to colleagues at Alabama
A&M regarding WISE.
