Biography

The Hirschi Lab investigates mechanisms of modern catalytic reactions—particularly photoredox catalysis, electrochemistry, enzymology, and asymmetric transition metal catalysis—by combining experimental mechanistic studies with computational modeling. Our experimental approach employs isotope effects, spectroscopy, and kinetic analysis to interrogate reaction pathways and identify the turnover-limiting and stereodetermining steps of catalytic cycles. 

This experimental foundation integrates with a comprehensive computational toolkit, including density functional theory, ab initio molecular dynamics, and classical and quasiclassical dynamics. Mechanistic insights drive improvements in catalytic activity and stereoselectivity and enable the design of new synthetic transformations.
