To the Readers of TheaComm,

On behalf of Binghamton University, I am pleased to celebrate the first issue of TheaComm, and I congratulate the Center for Theater Arts Collaboration (CTAC) on achieving this milestone.

Binghamton University is proud of the long history of cooperation it has established with our Chinese partners in the performing arts, The National Academy of Theater Arts (NACTA) in Beijing. Through this partnership, Binghamton has been privileged to produce stunning Chinese theatrical and opera works in true cultural interchange. The establishment of the Center for Theater Arts Collaboration last year will strengthen and expand these offerings while ensuring that Binghamton students experience one-of a kind educational opportunities in the Arts.

Our students benefit from the interdisciplinary approach embraced by CTAC, gaining a rounded and in-depth understanding of the works they are performing. But I am most impressed by CTAC's broader ambitions, exemplified by the release of this e-journal. I am encouraged by the center's focus on artistic creativity and scholarly exchanges and look forward to the workshops and conferences that will be on their program. I am confident that the Center's work will continue to build relations between our nations and build a bridge connecting Binghamton University to the China and Chinese communities throughout the world.

Again, congratulations to the Center for Theater Arts Collaboration on the successful launch of TheaComm, and sincere thanks to Director Zu-Yan Chen and Acting Director Chenqing Song for their work in support of the Center and our students.

Sincerely,

President Harvey G. Stenger
