In a little over 60 years, Binghamton University has built a reputation as a world-class institution that combines a broadly interdisciplinary international education with one of the most vibrant research programs in the nation. Binghamton is a highly selective institution.
The Center for Korean Studies (CKS) was established in 2010 to promote Korean Studies at Binghamton University. As a center devoted to the study of Korea, its goals are to foster research across disciplines and to use the academic resources of the University to promote the understanding of Korea. The Center seeks to promote interdisciplinary and intercultural approaches to Korean studies by drawing on University faculty in disciplines as diverse as art history, Korean American diasporas, history, economics, language, linguistics, literature, sociology and political science.
The Center conducts conferences and workshops, sponsors research projects, presents lectures, supports publication of significant research on Korea and contributes to the enhancement of the University's library system and other University research facilities. The Center also sponsors Korean events on campus including cultural activities. To date, such activities and programs have raised awareness and appreciation of Korean culture across the Binghamton University campus and in the surrounding community.
