Background

Matthew Bowman joined Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences in September 2021 as a clinical assistant professor for the Division of Physical Therapy within the School of Rehabilitation Sciences.

He is a board-certified clinical specialist in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy, and has a wide array of clinical experience, including acute care, sub-acute rehabilitation, outpatient orthopedics and outpatient pulmonary physical therapy.

Bowman has presented nationally and internationally on exercise for people with pulmonary diseases, including cystic fibrosis and COPD.

While practicing for over 15 years at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the lead physical therapist for the pulmonary physical therapy program, developed the Cystic Fibrosis Physical Therapy program and led the working group to develop the multidisciplinary rehabilitation program for COVID-19. Bowman was a clinical instructor for student physical therapists for 10 years, assisted with various physical therapy classes at the university and was the physical therapist mentor for physical therapists hired to the department.
