Biography

Michael Bermudez joined Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences as a clinical associate professor in the Division of Occupational Therapy. He teaches in the Entry-Level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program and has expertise in assistive technology, occupational therapy education, leadership, population health, and community-based practice.

His previous academic appointments include The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of Scranton. Bermudez was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar at Kyambogo University in Uganda, where he taught graduate courses in gerontology, health promotion, and community-based rehabilitation while collaborating on research and curriculum development. He has also maintained clinical practice in rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home health, and school-based occupational therapy.

His scholarship focuses on occupational therapy education, assistive technology, occupational science, educational technology, and global health. His current scholarly interests include advancing occupational therapy theory by studying cultural socialization as occupation, as well as research on assistive technology, educational innovation, and artificial intelligence in occupational therapy. He is also a member of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) roster of accreditation evaluators.
